अष्टाध्यायी · the eight chapters

The grammar of Pāṇini,
woven to be read.

Every sūtra is a thread — pulled forward by अनुवृत्ति, governed from above by अधिकार. Tantuvāya lays the whole weave open: 3,983 sūtras and 2,259 dhātus, sourced faithfully from ashtadhyayi.com, in an interface built to be a quiet place to study.

सूत्रं नाम

A sūtra is a knot in a longer thread.

Pāṇini wrote with almost impossible economy. A word stated once keeps applying to the rules that follow — this carrying-forward is अनुवृत्ति. A heading rule governs everything beneath it — अधिकार. Reading the Aṣṭādhyāyī means holding many threads at once. Tantuvāya draws those threads on the page: on every sūtra you can see which words it inherited, where they came from, and what it hands forward.
